Acne for all ages

Acne is the occurrence of inflamed or infected sebaceous glands in the skin. However there are numerous factors that can attribute to and affect acne and there are different degrees of the condition.

Commitment!

The most common problem when dealing with acne is unrealistic expectations. Acne is such a long term problem and has such long term solutions, that a lot of clients lose patience. No skin acts the same and there are so many variable environmental, dietary and hormonal factors that affect the condition it is difficult to normalise the skin immediately.

Depending on the severity of the acne, treatment normally involves an in depth consultation, to discuss, what products are being used on your skin, lifestyle, medications, stress levels, water intake, dietary intake and other key factors, followed by an initially facial, that hydrates and cleanses, the skin, performing extractions if necessary. It is important that your skin is allowed to heal after this treatment and you cannot wear makeup for at least a couple days after so that the pores do not get blocked again! From this point and before you start an intense course of vitamin A facials, it is important that you then use topical Vitamin A (Environ’s AVST 1 moisturiser) daily to build up the levels of vitamin A in your skin so that you don’t have was is called a retinoid reaction to the higher levels.

Vitamin A, the magic cream?

Why Vitamin A? It is the only product that changes the skin at the DNA level of the cells, meaning it can normalise the skin, if it is too dry it will hydrate, if it is too oily it will reduce the oiliness and if it is damaged/ aged, it will repair. Using high levels of vitamin A and taking it topically on a daily basis will continue to correct the skin.

After the initial cleansing facial and once the skin has healed usually a course of 6 treatments, 1 a week for 6 weeks is required. These treatments will consist of a cool peel (lactic acid at a low percentage but high PH) which creates a sterile environment, killing bacteria and creates channels in the skin , to allow us to penetrate high concentrates of vitamin A 10,000 times deeper into the skin. This is done using ionophorisis technology, a current that pulsates the products into the skin. Unlike previous acne treatments, it is not painful, but the client should make sure they can commit to a minimum of 6 treatments and severe acne will require more.

Once the magic has worked and your acne is under control, other methods can be used to work on pigmentation scars and scarring which again is another long term process.

If you have acne I think you need to just accept that your skin is more high maintenance than others and being realistic and maintaining your treatments every 4-6 weeks will ensure that your acne will remain under control. It takes commitment and patience to manage acne, but it is possible and when you are ready to commit it is vital that you follow all the procedures, to get the best results!!!

Safety Checklist for travelers seeking plastic surgery

With improved travel connectivity and technological advancement in many countries it is becoming easier to mix your holiday sightseeing with a boob job or tummy tuck.  However, at times we need to consider the pros and cons carefully and hence Nu Cosmetic has drawn a checklist for people considering a surgery aboard.

What is the doctor’s training?

A gynecologist performing a breast enlargement is not a suitable choice. Look for plastic & reconstructive surgeons instead.

Is the plastic surgeon certified?

The ISAPS website lists the names of more than 2000 plastic surgeons from 90+ countries. ISAPS certification ensures that they are meeting international standards as it is only granted after extensive screening to each individual.

Is the plastic surgeon’s clinic and hospital facility certified?

In UK all clinic facility are certified by CQC, similarly other countries have their own or similar regulations in place. Ask for certification information and who the certifying body is and if require check with them directly.

Does your personal individual health insurance cover you outside your country if you are going abroad for surgery?

Most health insurance providers do not cover individuals for surgery performed outside their country of residence. Actively obtaining International Medical Coverage will be essential for your own safety.

What about aftercare?

Patients should stay in the nearby area where the surgery was performed for at least one week, depending on the procedure so that if require you can be given the medical attention by the surgeons or hospital. Find out what will happen once you return to your home country and you need aftercare.

Nu Cosmetic regularly receives calls from people who had surgery aboard e.g. breast enlargement needing urgent medical attention.

What about post-operative complications and how they will manage the revision procedure if required?

Have you checked their references and past work?

Consider asking names and contact information of patients who have recently had a similar procedure and contact them. Ask them to share their own experience with the surgeon, associated staff, aftercare facilities and post-operative follow up.

You can also consider asking how they handled if any complication arose.

What about the language barrier and do they speak the language you are comfortable in?

If you cannot be easily understood, you will have to explain hard if any complication arises.

Who will be you main point of contact all through the journey?

You should be talking directly with the surgeon’s staff and the concerned surgeon itself.

South Koreans more likely to undergo cosmetic surgery

International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS), new figures revealed this week that South Koreans are more likely to undergo the knife comparatively to their peers globally.

The ISAPS figures showed that more than 15 million people decided to improve their looks by having plastic surgery.

In year 2011, 20% of Seoul women between the age of 19 to 49 admitted taking some treatment in this area.

Male breast reductions, bottom implants and ‘vaginal rejuvenations’ were most popular in Brazil whereas Rhinoplasty (nose job) is popular in Asia, with China, Japan and South Korea among the top five countries. Breast Enlargement was the most popular procedure in the USA followed by Brazil, Mexico, Italy and China.

UK came 16th globally, similar to itse position held in year 2010. Approximately 19,031 breast enlargements and 16,034 lipoplasty procedures  were performed out of 95,063 surgical procedures in 2011.

Huge jump in anti-wrinkle treatments or popularly known as BOTOX was seen across globally as its number rose by 26%.

Even after recent breast implant fiasco Breast Enlargement remains the most popular procedure as it is still a very safe procedure.

Blepharoplasty(eyelid) and facelifts(Ritidectomy) operations soars

In a recent report The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) said overall the number of procedures carried out was stable, by their 230 registered surgeons across the UK. The members performed 43,172 surgeries in 2012.

Gynecomastia or commonly known as on moobs – man boobs – was down 18% from 2011. However, Breast Enlargement or augmentation was the most common procedure in the UK with 9,843 going under the knife as seen in previous year.

PIP scare has a little impact on the numbers as it was down 1.6% comparatively to previous year.

Fat transfers numbers increased by 13% during the same period. Although, liposuction and tummy tuck numbers across both men and women dropped by 10%. Rajiv Grover, BAAPS President said “anti-ageing procedures showed a double digit rise, despite a double dip recession” in UK.

Note: The analysis was produced by using the data provided by BAAPS registered surgeon and does not include surgery performed by others who are not their members.

Things To Consider Before Undergoing The Knife

With increasing numbers of people undergoing cosmetic surgery, and more companies offering different procedures, it’s vitally important that before you decide to go ahead, you spend some time considering the surgery and the expected results.

To help everyone with gaining achievable and realistic results Nu Cosmetic Clinic offers the following tips to people considering cosmetic surgery.

1) Spend some time doing homework: Research by asking family and friends who have undertaken the surgery themselves. Understand the benefits and all associated risks. Take some help from BAAPS as they provide comprehensive information on cosmetic surgery. Consider checking in public forums where people have shared their experience.

2) Have realistic expectations: Ask yourself first what is realistic and achievable and will it look natural as every person body shape is different.  Ask all Cosmetic and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons questions about how the surgery will work for you personally as all surgeries are very personal and results vary for each individual.

3) Collect required information: Talk to clients who have had similar experiences themselves and who have had your procedure so that you know what to expect.

4) Attend a free consultation: Meet with your Plastic Surgeon at a reputable clinic and discuss your full medical history to determine the most appropriate treatment. Seek a more opinions if required until you have decided that this is right for you. Ask for some before and after pictures of the Surgeon’s work, then you can get a better idea of what to expect.

5)Choose a GMC Registered Surgeon: Because GMC Surgeons are qualified, trained, properly certified, experienced in your procedure, and operate only in accredited facilities and are regulated by their code of professional conduct.

6) Find out if the clinic is CQC registered: Registration will assure you that they are meeting the guidelines and national standards.

Consider asking following Questions during the whole process:

Are you a GMC registered Surgeon and/or are registered with BAAPS?

Do you have hospital practicing privileges to perform this procedure? If so, at which hospitals? If required check with the hospital itself.

How many procedures they have performed and which locations?

Am I a suitable candidate? What will be expected of me to get best results? Are there any pre-operative instructions to follow?

Where and how will your surgery be performed?

Is the surgical facility registered with CQC?  If required check with CQC website.

What are the associated risks and complications with the procedure?

Where scar will be made on the body and how long?

How long a recovery period can I expect, and what kind of help will I need during my recovery?

Will I need to take time off work? If so, how long?

What are post operative instructions?

How much will my procedure cost? Are financing options available?

What is the cancellation policy if you changed your mind?

What kind of implants you will be getting with your Breast Enlargement? What is the guarantee with the implants? Check the guarantee with the implant manufacturer if required.

How are post-complications handled?

Discuss post operative appointments and arrangements to be seen by a Doctor/Nurse.

It is very important that you take your time to decide about the surgery. After your surgery it is equally (if not more) important to attend all the post operative appointments with your Doctor or Nurse so that the healing process is carefully monitored and managed. Lax approach and not attending will not help in the recovery as many complications can be identified at an early stage. Early intervention will ease the healing and it is in your best interest.

The Cold War of Skin

In the depth of these cold winter months, our skin becomes dry, dehydrated, sensitised and dull. Why wait until spring to have vibrant skin? We can undergo some serious repair work in the winter months and have your skin looking fresh and rejuvenated. Skin care is not about a magic fix; it is about identifying specifically what your skin is lacking and replenishing the depleted vitamins, so your skin can perform at its optimal!
A Common Misconception-Exfoliating will make skin fresher!

This has a slight element of truth, exfoliating will remove the Stratum Corneum the dead layer of our skin, which exposes the skin and could damage our waterproofing barrier which helps us keep our skin hydrated, if over exfoliated. Exfoliating alone doesn’t repair the skin, the reason to exfoliate is to remove dead skin and get product into the fresh layer of skin to start to change and correct problems. There is no point in just constantly exfoliating your skin if you are not replenishing it with vitamins, the best rule of thumb is when you take something off you need to put something back in!

Home quick fix – Combat this problem by after exfoliating use a hydrating mask (Environ’s hydrating masque) and after removing replenish the skin with Environ’s Hydrating Oil Capsules to leave the skin hydrated.

Best Solution- Enjoy a light Microdermabrasion to exfoliate dead skin and replenish with Vitamin A and Vitamin C with a nourishing Aliginate Masque connected to Ionophorosis a pulsed current that penetrates the vitamins 10,000 times deeper into the skin, finished with Environ’s Hydrating Oil Capsules and Complementary Pure Oxygen Treatment all for £60 (till the end of February quoting COLD WAR regular price £90)

Acne at all ages……………..

Breast Enlargement

Breast augmentation is one of the most common procedures performed annually by cosmetic surgeons at Nu Cosmetic Clinic, report Mr Rochira, breast specialist consultant cosmetic surgeon.

Women may choose to undergo breast enlargement surgery for various reasons, says Mr Rochira. These personal reasons may center around breast that are perceived to be under developed or because of differences in sizes of the breasts or from changes after pregnancy or breast feeding. Some women may be happy with their breasts but just want them made fuller. Breast enlargement using breast implants can give a woman more proportional shape and may improve self esteem.

During the consultation, you will be asked about your desired breast size and anything else related to the appearance of your breasts that you feel is important for you as it is very personalized. This will help your surgeon to understand your expectations and determine whether they realistically can be achieved.

Breast augmentation is usually performed on an outpatient basis but should be done in a hospital. You may be permitted to go home after a few hours, unless your plastic surgeon has determined that you will stay in the hospital overnight.

Individual factors and personal preferences will help your plastic surgeon to determinate your appropriate breast size and implant’s type: round or anatomical. A C-cup size breast is often drooped as the force of gravity or a B-cup size breast after pregnancy and breast feeding with a visible scoop in the upper pole may requires a tear-drop shape implant (anatomical) to achieve a good cosmetic outcome.

The size and type of breast implant recommended for you will be determined by your goals for breast enhancement, your existing body frame and mass and your existing breast tissue.

Surgeon’s at Nu Cosmetic Clinic use pre-filled silicone breast implants (ALLERGAN – NATRELLE/CUI) which are the most common high-rated implants used in the world. You can decide to have a CUI implant with 10years warranty in case of rupture or NATRELLE with life term warranty depending on your desires.

Breast augmentation will make your breast fuller and enhance their shape. You will find it easier to wear certain styles of clothing. Like many women who have had breast augmentation, you may have a boost in self-confidence.

Is your breast sagging?

There are two things that women complain of when they say their breasts are sagging says Mr Rochira, qualified Cosmetic Surgeon in Italy and recently enrolled as Consultant Cosmetic Surgeon at Nu Cosmetic Clinic. One is that there is a scoop on the upper pole of the breast from loss of tissue.  This probably happened when you lost weight or after pregnancy and breast feeding.  This usually is just putting in an implant to give you the volume that you lost, back into your breast or a breast augmentation.

The other thing that women complain of is that their nipples point to the floor.  This requires a lift to correct.

Breast Position

You need to have a consultation and physical exam to evaluate if it is one or both of these things.  If the nipple position is below the inframammary line, which is the most common forms of droopy breasts, then your only alternative is breast lift. Mr Rochira, specialist in breast cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, anticipates a decrease in cup size of 1/2 to 1 cup with a breast lift, which is because the redundant skin has to be removed. Depending on your satisfaction with the size, could be breast lift with or without implants. Yes, a breast augmentation and a mastopexy can be performed at the same time however it will require longer scars. For further information you can ask for a free consultation with Mr. Dario Rochira who practices with Nu.

Cosmetic procedures could be improved by sound waves

Cosmetic surgeons performing rhinoplasty could make use of sound waves to avoid any damage to a patient’s skin or soft tissue. This is according to research from the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, where doctors conducted a retrospective study of 103 patients who underwent conventional rhinoplasty as well as aesthetic refinement procedures. Sound waves which were generated by an ultrasonic bone aspirator were used in every case.

Psychological Aspects of Plastic Surgery

As aesthetic surgery becomes increasingly popular across all sections of the population, proper patient selection becomes even more important to the entire surgery process. Aesthetic surgery is unique because, unlike any other surgical procedure, it is initiated by the patient and not the physician. In addition, this surgery elicits a more acute reaction from its patients than any other type of surgery. Because aesthetic surgery is initiated by the patient, surgeons are required to recognize the potentially complex psychological milieu of aesthetic procedures. Before proceeding to the operating room, evaluating the patient’s psychological condition is essential. This can be effectively accomplished by carefully evaluating a patient’s general demeanor and personality, recognizing the patient’s true motive, knowing good from poor prognostic indicators, and using accurate assessment techniques.
