Nose Correction
(Rhinoplasty)

Many people are unhappy with their nose's size or shape, perhaps it is large or crooked or maybe you feel it just does not fit in with the rest of your facial features. Nose correction surgery is also often referred to as nose job surgery or Rhinoplasty surgery and can drastically alter your appearance. It involves a surgical procedure to alter the appearance of the nose. During surgery the cartilage and bones within the nose are reshaped to give a different look.





The Consultation
Before any treatment takes place you should always have a consultation to ensure that rhinoplasty surgery is right for you. Counselling should be offered and alternative options should be discussed to ensure that this surgery is not rushed into or taken lightly. You should discuss what you want from surgery and the look you want to create. The shape of the rest of your face should be taken into account so that your new look nose fits in with your face shape and the shape and size of your forehead, cheekbones and chin. With computer generated images you will be able to see how your new nose will look from every angle and you should be completely satisfied before committing to rhinoplasty surgery. All of your options should be covered and you should be made aware of the risks and aftercare treatment.

The Treatment
Nose job surgery is performed in an operating theatre and in most cases under general anaesthetic. Surgery usually lasts between one and two hours depending on the amount of reshaping to be carried out. In order to avoid visible scarring to the face the surgeon will begin by making internal incisions to the nose and then carry out remodelling which may involve trimming cartilage and bone or shaping the cartilage and bone to create smooth lines.

Immediately After Treatment
After the nose correction surgery is completed the surgeon will put in a nose plug and a plaster splint to keep the nose in place whilst it heals. The plug can be removed the following day, however the plaster splint will need to remain for a week. Rhinoplasty surgery usually involves an overnight stay at your clinic or hospital and you should be able to go home the following day.

Later Progress
After you have your plaster splint taken off you will not see the new shape of your nose immediately. Following nose job surgery the nose will be quite swollen for around three months due to the healing taking place. After this time the swelling will reduce significantly and you will be able to see how your newly shaped nose looks.

Return to Normal
During this time you will remain under the care of your clinic, you will be able to return to work after ten days but it is essential that you follow the aftercare instructions discussed with your surgeon and make sure you attend all follow up appointments. You should also avoid sunbathing and contact sports for a few months after your nose correction surgery.
